- The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships.
- To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must take the PSAT/NMSQT in the proper year in high school (usually the junior year).
- Selection for this scholarship is based upon abilities, skills, accomplishment, and potential for success in rigorous college studies and beyond. The 16,000 high-scoring participants who are designated Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for scholarship awards. Some scholarship awards are college-specific.
